This, of course, isn't a categorical definition of who "we" are — the men who are attracted to this site are as varied as, um, a rainbow. But if you are starting to suspect you have EnlightenMen tendencies, why don't you continue on to How it Works?
...acknowledge and celebrate our attraction to men, and welcome an intimate relationship with another man.
...are spiritually oriented, knowing that the Truth of who we are runs deeper than body level.
...are not necessarily religious, though some may have religious affiliations — but do not ascribe to the judgmental and punishing dogmas of certain churches.
...may identify as "gay," "bisexual," "questioning," or "I don't label myself." (Less optimal identifications are "totally straight" or "on the down low.")
...understand that everyone brings some "stuff" to a relationship, but are willing to prioritize love over fear, and are committed to working through their "stuff" instead of reinforcing it.
...approach this dating thing with respect, authenticity, compassion, and integrity — for their dates and for themselves.
EnlightenMen.com is not your typical dating site. Or your typical gay meeting site. And we're not here to help you find what gay men typically jump onto the Internet to typically find. (Not that we're passing judgment on the act of hooking up -- let he who is without libido cast the first aspersion.)
So . . . what are we here for, and is it for you? We are a service dedicated to helping spiritually minded gay men present themselves in their most authentic and attractive light — and help them authentically attract a compatible significant other.
And the question you should be asking right now is: "What do you mean by 'spiritually minded'?" Good question. We are not a religious organization, or adherents/proponents of any religion, affiliation, organization, denomination, or other "ation." We don't have any stand on sexual behavior or mores, or any prescribed political positions.
Though what we mean by "spiritually minded" is not any kind of dogma, doctrine, or predetermined category, we have found that many of "these guys" have certain things in common. Wanna hear about them? Even if they sound a little like some kind of gay Boy Scout credo? Okay, read on.
